CAD

Using the software in CAD of Kaledo print, combined with photoshop and illustrator I have produced a project consisting of development, inspiration and four designs along with three colour ways. Here are some examples below of my favourite pieces.

Weave Project

When looking at colour combinations I think this is one of my favourites. When looking at these colours I experimented and practised with the sample threads on the card to see what colours went well and in what order. I think the colours contrast well with each other and they are very soothing, soft colours that catch your eye.

In the third weave I looked at the tapestry designer Ruth Hollos who looks at proportions of colours. Similarly to this tapestry I have tried to accomplish different scales of the weave in the slits. I tried to compliment the colours and throughout the project I have always liked these colours as I think they contrast each other well. The Bauhaus is an example below, where woven textiles are incorporated. There are the same colours that are repeated but they are shaped and directed differently in the weave. As said above the Riley influenced these colours that I used, therefore I tried to supplement both styles.

My first weave I enjoyed making as I tried to combine the different techniques, such as the diagonal weave shapes and the curving of the wefts. Even though I think the colours complement each other, I think maybe that they are quite blocked colours, which indeed gives a blocked effect but instead I could have blended the colours more.

My Work

These are some examples from the start of my textiles degree up until present....

Here is a collection for mixed media from First Year.

Below are examples of work using the heat press. This was one of my favourite projects so far during the course as it was very interesting to see what materials worked and how the heat press could completely change the outcome of the previous design.

Within this project I combined stitch with the materials as a finish quality.

Bradford Textiles Competition 2009

Here are examples of my entry for last year's Bradford competition. As I was specialising in weave at the time I thought it seemed appropriate to base my work on weave. After learning the skills and techniques I was able to apply them to my own.

Earlier in the week I travelled to Bradford for Bradford Textile Society Design Competition Conference, where we were given a talk from Janet Holbrook from Peclers for a colour, fabric and style forecast for spring/ summer 2011.

Knit and Stitch Show

Yesterday we travelled to Harrogate where we visited the knit and stitch show. My friend and I braved to ask the man man himself if we could please borrow cameras for the show to take pictures. Luckily we were allowed, but under strict conditions to keep a close eye on these precious items. We obeyed instructions and took some inspiring photos......

These 'white and blue lines' are made out of linen, threads and using machine stitching. A couple of hours before seeing this image we were given a very interesting lecture and were shown this video on youtube. This image reminded me of the video, maybe it's the similar colours or the features that look like the image is moving.

Off to Manchester tonight....always on the go....will fill you in tomorrow.....
